Dentistry's Lisa Chung, Students, and Community Partner Honored for "Painting Healthier Smiles"
On October 20th Dr. Lisa Chung, DDS, MPH, Division of Oral Epidemiology & Dental Public Health, along with UCSF dental students and community partners, was given a 2011 Faculty and Community Partnership Grants Program Award at Beyers Auditorium in Genentech Hall at UCSF's Mission Bay campus for "Painting a Healthier Smile", now in its third year of funding.
The project was created in partnership with the San Francisco Deparment of Public Health, and was designed as an elective course where dental students are taken to preschools in low-income areas to provide oral health screening, education and the administration of fluoride varnish.
Introduced by Dr. George Taylor, DMD, DrPH, Chair of UCSF Dentistry's Department of Preventive and Restorative Dental Sciences, Chung and the students, who have taken the elective course, were accompanied by Margaret Fisher of the San Francisco Deparment of Public Health, to accept the award.
