D2 Markova Awarded Scholarship for China Visit
UCSF The School of Dentistry announces that 2nd year dental student Iveta Markova has been awarded the UCSF Student Academic Affairs/UCSF School of Dentistry Dean’s Office scholarship to travel to China this July with the "Legends of China: Silk Road to the Future" program. Markova will join four other scholarship recipients from the other UCSF professionals schools (one from each school).
Says Markova: "I am very grateful to be given the opportunity to represent the UCSF School of Dentistry in China. This scholarship is unique because it will allow me to become a part of an international interprofessional team and build professional relationships with future leaders in advancing global health. Moreover, I feel this experience will broaden my knowledge of diverse cultures thereby making me a better health professional."
The Legends of China tour is an opportunity for UCSF staff, faculty and students to travel to China alongside colleagues and students from across the UC system. After meeting in Beijing and a day of educational and cultural events with Chinese students, the tour leaves for Shanghai, Xi’an, Suzhou, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Lhasa, Hong Kong and possibly Seoul, South Korea. Students discover China while meeting students and staff from across UC, and other universities.
Vice Chancellor for Student Academic Affairs Dr. Joe Castro has championed student participation in this program by providing challenge funds that are being generously matched by each school, in order to award these special scholarships.
