American Academy of Periodontology Recognition for Paydar and Loomer
The American Academy of Periodontology announces that the recipient of the 2013 Dental Student Award for Achievement in Periodontology at the UCSF School of Dentistry is Dr. Sarmad Paydar, Class of 2013, who is beginning a residency in the UCSF Dentistry Periodontics program, and that the recipient of the 2013 Outstanding Teaching and Mentoring in Periodontics Award at the UCSF School of Dentistry is Peter Michael Loomer, DDS, MS, PhD.
The Dental Student Award for Achievement in Periodontology, underwritten by a grant from Procter and Gamble, is awarded to a senior who displays outstanding performance in periodontics. In 2013, the Academy granted 65 recipients this award.
The Outstanding Teaching and Mentoring in Periodontics Award is awarded to a periodontal educator at each school whom demonstrates a commitment to excellence in providing education in the full scope of clinical periodontics, and relays that enthusiasm to students. In 2013, the Academy granted 50 recipients this award.
The American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) is an 8,400-member professional organization for periodontists - specialists in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases affecting the gums and supporting structures of the teeth, and in the placement of dental implants. The Academy's purpose is to advance the periodontal and general health of the public and promote excellence in the practice of periodontics.
