"It's unusual" says Brown, explaining that normally just one student is qualified to receive the URM scholarship for a given school.  "But they made an exception for me this year, based on my background and the essay I wrote for the application."

"I'm very happy to have received it" adds Nobles, noting that "it does help with the cost of dental school."

Both Brown and Nobles expressed interest in giving back by practicing in communities that are dentally underserved.

"I can't think of two more deserving students" says Dr. Dan Ramos, Professor in the Department of Orofacial Sciences and Faculty Director of the Post-Baccalaureate Program, who wrote letters in support of each of them for the scholarships.
