UCSF Dentistry Offers Dental Screenings at Cesar Chavez Festival
UCSF School of Dentistry students and faculty volunteers, including Drs Daniel Ramos and Benjamin Chaffee, offered free adult and children’s dental screenings at the Cesar Chavez Festival on 24th Street in San Francisco's Mission District on Saturday, April 12, from 12 noon to 5 pm, where they were joined by San Francisco City Supervisor David Campos, who offered words of thanks and encouragement.
Volunteer Lilly Padilla (D3) observed: "The day was a great success, and the community welcomed us and they were very grateful we were there. We notice that a majority of people we see at such events still lack oral health education, and for that reason it's crucial for us to be present and proactive in our community."
Added Padilla, with extra enthusiasm, "I can't wait to do it again!! Thanks to all the faculty and volunteers who were present at the event!"
The UCSF Dentistry volunteers performed screenings and applied fluoride varnishes to prevent cavities, also providing free dental education and referrals to the UCSF Dental Center.
