#2 in a series
As you know, the School's Accreditation site visit from the Commission on Dental Accreditation is nearly upon us. To help faculty, staff and students in final preparations for this event, we've created this "Did You Know?" series with some interesting facts and tidbits about the School of Dentistry. We will email it weekly until the week of the Accreditation visit from April 12-14, 2005.
- Students actively participate in the Community Dental Clinic for the homeless in San Francisco. Student volunteers screen homeless individuals at shelters, and provide care at the UCSF dental clinics. This is a very popular elective activity for students in all years of the dental curriculum, and 60 to 70 students participate each quarter.
- Community externships that provide fourth-year dental students with patient care experiences have been established in a variety of settings around the state. In 2003-04, all D4 students had 16 days of practice experience at the externship sites. Starting with the 2004-05 academic year, each student will participate for 25 days in the School's externship sites.
