#3 in a series

As you know, the School's Accreditation site visit from the Commission on Dental Accreditation is nearly upon us. To help faculty, staff and students in final preparations for this event, we've created this "Did You Know?" series with some interesting facts and tidbits about the School of Dentistry. We will email it weekly until the week of the Accreditation visit from April 12-14, 2005.

  • The School of Dentistry has four academic departments which house 19 academic divisions and programs. Between 2001 and 2004, the School underwent a gradual process of realigning six existing divisions and is now organized into the Departments of

    • Cell and Tissue Biology
    • Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
    • Orofacial Sciences
    • Preventive and Restorative Dental Sciences

  • The School's commitment to serving the community dates back to the earliest days. Following the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and fire, the students and faculty from the School took on the burden of providing oral health care to the city's refugee population camped out in a tent city in nearby Golden Gate Park.
