#4 in a series
As you know, the School's Accreditation site visit from the Commission on Dental Accreditation is nearly upon us. To help faculty, staff and students in final preparations for this event, we've created this "Did You Know?" series with some interesting facts and tidbits about the School of Dentistry. We will email it weekly until the week of the Accreditation visit from April 12-14, 2005.
- The School of Dentistry operates 14 clinics at two sites in San Francisco, and provides more than 120,000 patient visits per year. The School's clinical income amounts to approximately $13 million annually; UCSF dental students' clinical productivity ranks second among the 36 public dental schools, and third among all 55 U.S. dental schools.
- The School's community externship program for fourth-year dental students provides 25 days of clinical experience in various dental settings throughout California. Students have the opportunity to work with UCSF faculty at these externship sites, of which there are 19 statewide, and provide care to underserved populations, particularly those in rural California as well as inner-city communities.
