John Greenspan Wins AADR Award John Greenspan, Dean for Research at the UCSF School of Dentistry, was presented with the National Student Research Group Mentor Award on March 9, 2006 at the American Association of Dental Research's (AADR) Student Research Group Business Meeting in Orlando, Florida, in conjunction with AADR's 35th Annual Meeting & Exhibition. Each year, dental student groups nationwide nominate faculty members, from which one faculty mentor is chosen. According to an AADR spokesperson, the award was established in order to provide national recognition for outstanding faculty advisors who demonstrated dedication and commitment to mentoring and inspiring the next generation of researchers. Dr. Greenspan, who is also director of the AIDS Research Institute at UCSF, was presented with a plaque at the meeting, and made brief remarks at the AADR Faculty Advisors Luncheon on March 10, 2006. He was nominated by the officers of the John Greene Society, the School of Dentistry's student research group. "I am overwhelmed," Dr. Greenspan said. "I have never been as touched by a mark of recognition quite as I am by this one. I would like to express my deep, deep appreciation to the John Greene Society officers and members, and the national Student Research Group officers." Dr. Greenspan is the first UCSF faculty member to win this award.
