UCSF Dental Students Win Awards at National Oral Health Conference

Two UCSF dental students won awards at the National Oral Health Conference (NOHC), held May 1-3 in Little Rock, Arkansas. The NOHC is the joint annual meeting of the American Association of Public Health Dentistry and the Association of State and Territorial Dental Directors. Former Surgeon General Joycelyn Elders was the keynote speaker at the meeting.

Brian Carr, second-year student, won first place and Anh Ha, first-year student, won second place in the competition for the Predoctoral Dental Student Merit Award for Outstanding Achievement in Community and Preventive Dentistry.

The title of Brian's project was: "Identification and Description of Mobile Dental Programs." Carr's faculty sponsors were Jane Weintraub and Umo Isong. The title of Anh's project was: "HIPAA Notices of Privacy Practices used in US Dental Schools: Factors Related to Readability or Lack Thereof." His faculty sponsor was Stuart Gansky.

Both of the students' projects were affiliated with the Center to Address Disparities in Children's Oral Health.
