The Dental Mentorship Program (DMP) is designed for students who attend UCSF School of Dentistry's partnership high schools, have an interest in the health professions, and would like to participate in career exploration activities. The DMP is also designed to attract and reinforce the interests of students, especially those from disadvantaged and underrepresented minority backgrounds (African American, Hispanic and Native American).
The DMP will provide students limited hands-on experience in a clinical setting and match them with a faculty or dental student mentor. Students will be assigned to one of the dental school's three clinics and spend approximately 2-3 hours (after school), two days per week, learning about the field of dentistry. Occasional Saturday activities, such as field trips, on-site demonstrations, and visual presentations will also be offered.
Four students from each partnership high school (up to 12 students) will be selected to participate each Fall and Spring quarter during the academic year. Students must be highly motivated and be recommended by a science teacher and guidance counselor. Students must also meet the following criteria in order to be considered for participation:

Have at least a 2.5 GPA based
on a 4.0 scale |

Participate in an interview
by the staff of the DMP |

Individuals that are historically underrepresented in dentistry are encouraged to apply |
All participants will receive assistance with transportation to the clinic site, a stipend, and all instructional and career-related materials. |
