| The UCSF International Dentist Program (IDP) is a two-year (8-quarter) program administered by the UCSF School of Dentistry. The program may extend beyond two years depending on the student's ability to meet all graduation requirements.
The program admits 24 foreign-trained dentists yearly. The program begins in June of each year and culminates in a Doctor of Dental Science (DDS) degree. These students will matriculate into the existing third year didactic and clinical rotations and in their second year will be fully integrated into the existing fourth year Comprehensive Care clinical programs.
Additionally, IDP students will attend selected pre-doctoral supplemental academic and laboratory courses to satisfy educational requirements.
Admission requirements include: evidence of a dental degree from a foreign country, completion of Part I of the National Boards with an average of at least 83% (and a minimum score of at least 75% in each category), three (3) letters of recommendation (dean, faculty & candidate choice), eligibility for appropriate VISA, and evidence of financial support. The National Board Part I must be taken within three years of the application deadline date. Candidates must also take the TOEFL examination and achieve a minimum score in one of the following exam formats:
- 240 or higher on the computer test, or
- 587 or higher on the paper test, or
- 95 or higher on the internet based test (iBT)
The TOEFL exam must be taken within two years of the application deadline.
Qualified applicants will be required to attend an on-campus technical exam and interview prior to final selection.
