William F. Bird Memorial Lab Fund

Doni & Bill Bird

The UCSF School of Dentistry has launched a fundraising campaign in honor of Dr. William Bird, beloved longtime faculty member, mentor, and close friend to many, who passed away on July 18, 2012, following a battle with cancer.

In honor of Bill and his impact on dentistry and public health, the clinical simulation lab on the third floor of the UCSF Dental Center at 707 Parnassus will be renovated and named The William F. Bird Clinical Simulation Lab. The new state-of-the-art facility will be utilized by third and fourth year dental students, as well as students enrolled in the International Dentistry Program, to hone their clinical skills.

The improvements, which will greatly enhance UCSF’s preclinical learning environment, will feature ten A-Dec stationary simulators including LED lighting, enhanced ergonomic tools, and cutting-edge simulators. If you have visited the Willard C. Fleming Preclinical Simulation Lab on the fourth floor of the Dental Center, you will have a sense of how the Bird Lab will be configured and modernized.

Our fundraising goal is $250,000 to upgrade and retrofit this space.

We know that Bill touched many through his life and work, which is why we are asking community members, alumni, faculty and staff to please consider joining us in contributing to this important campaign.  Gifts of any size are welcome.
