About the seminar
Tooth Transplantation, Reimplantation, and Surgical Uprighting What Works, When it Works, and Even Why it Works
This lecture presents current concepts regarding autogenous tooth transplantation including patient selection, current techniques, and treatment results. This material provides a contrast and alternative to dental implants and describes the orthodontic results that can be gained through this treatment. The concepts learned will be demonstrated through cases covering reimplantation and surgical uprighting.
Dental Implant Aesthetics and Complications When They are Good They are Good, But when They are not They can be a Real Problem
Participants will learn the requirements for aesthetic placement and restoration of both immediate and delayed implants. Cases will be presented that illustrate the complications that can arise with implant dentistry and how to handle these problems.
An Update on Antibiotics
Become acquainted with new antibiotics and new antibiotic combinations. You will learn why many of the old standbys still work best. The pros and cons of prophylactic antibiotic premedication will also be discussed. Risk management aspects of antibiotic therapy and prophylactic antibiotics will be discussed.
Oral Manifestations of Systemic Disease and the Early Detection and Management of Oral Cancer
Many systemic diseases have manifestations in the oral cavity which can be confusing to both patients and healthcare specialists. In many cases, patients are afraid that they may have cancer. How to distinguish these lesions from cancer will be explained and appropriate management discussed. The importance of differential diagnosis and early detection of oral cancer will be stressed because early treatment results in lower morbidity and increased survival rates.
Nerve Injuries in Dentistry
Nerve injury from local anesthetics, root treatment, dental implants, and dentoalveolar surgery (particularly third molar removal) is more common than you think. The prevention, evaluation, and management of these injuries will be discussed.
The Management of Obstructive Sleep Apnea
Obstructive sleep apnea has become an important issue for public health. The etiology of this condition, which has considerable relevance to dentistry, will be presented. Diagnosis and management of sleep apnea, particularly those aspects of disease that have dental implications, will be described.
Interesting Risk Management Cases
A variety of risk management cases involving nerve damage, delayed diagnosis of tumors, failure to appropriately manage infections, and implant complications will be discussed. Management issues include both clinical concerns and medico-legal issues.
