Oral Surgery for the General Practitioner

What You Will Learn

This one-day course is for general dentists who want to expand their oral surgery knowledge and better manage dento-alveolar surgical procedures. This comprehensive course will offer you, the general practitioner, an opportunity to better handle your extraction cases, manage complications, and know what to avoid. At the end of this program, by using the clinician’s simple and comprehensive approach, the practitioner will be able to perform various oral surgical procedures with greater confidence and possess the knowledge to handle any complication that may arise.

Lecture Objectives:

  • Local anesthesia
  • Armamentarium
  • Simple extraction and surgical extraction techniques, including flap design
  • Third molar evaluation
  • Biopsy technique
  • Surgery for orthodontics
  • Minor preprosthetic surgery
  • Tooth transplantation, reimplantation and surgical uprighting
  • Complications, emergencies and risk management issues
  • Update on antibiotics

M. Anthony Pogrel, DDS, MD, FACS, FRCS is currently Professor and Chair of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with a joint appointment in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in the Department of Surgery. He received his dental degree from Liverpool University in England and his medical degree from Aberdeen University in Scotland. He received his general surgery training in Great Britain and his oral and maxillofacial surgery training in Great Britain, Holland and Miami, Florida.

Intended Audience:

General practitioners and specialists. Hygienists and assistants may benefit from portions of the course.
