Clinical Considerations of Ceramic Veneers Using Current Scientific Information Advanced Materials and Technology Participation Course

Workshop: Saturday, November 14, 2009

In order to enroll in the workshop on November 14, you must complete the lecture course on November 13.

What You Will Learn

Studies show that porcelain veneers are overwhelmingly successful if the basic principles of bonding and minimal invasive procedure for the preservation of enamel are followed. In recent years, new and improved products have been introduced supported by volumes of in-vitro and in-vivo information to assist the clinician in enhancing the esthetics and longevity of porcelain veneers. Practical knowledge of these developments increases the life expectancy and minimizes unexpected and less desirable clinical outcomes including fracture, debonding and discoloration.

This hands-on participation course is designed to provide participants with clinical information and practical experience with ceramic veneers. Emphasis will be placed on minimal tooth preparation while achieving more durable and predictable restorations using new products and well tested technologies.

Lecture Objectives

  • Understand the concepts of tooth preparation for ceramic veneers.
  • Bond porcelain veneers in 2009: a step-by-step presentation on bonding
  • Create predictable impressions and life-like provisionalization for ceramic veneers
  • Develop skills with intra-oral shade modification
  • Practice the intra-oral repair of esthetic restorations – a step-by-step presentation

Hands-on Features and Demonstrations:

• Preparation of a block of six maxillary teeth for various types of porcelain veneers
• Temporization
• Use various methods to modify shade
• Bonding of porcelain veneers to prepared teeth
• Customization of shade for porcelain restorations
• Laboratory communications
