Esthetic Guidelines Review for Direct and Indirect Restorations –Howard H. Chi, DMD, MA

Esthetic restorations are still a hot topic for dental practitioners and their patients. More than ever before, the public is educated and aware of options to improve their smile. To provide esthetic services, the dental practitioner must understand fundamental principles needed to design a new smile. In this program, you will learn esthetic principles to guide you in placing esthetic direct or indirect restorations.

Sports Dentistry and How to Handle Traumatic Injuries –Howard H. Chi, DMD, MA

What is sports dentistry and what is the dental practitioner’s role? In this program, you will learn about the role of a team dentist and how to provide support when an athlete sustains a dental injury. Learn to diagnose traumatic injury for the adult dentition, the prognosis of these injuries and the treatment required to handle the trauma. Treatment for traumatized dentition may require splint, restorative or endodontic therapy, to be presented following the most recent guidelines in treating traumatic injuries.

Local Anesthesia Trouble-Shooting and Nitrous-Oxide Sedation Review –Gwen Essex, RDH, MS, EdD

This presentation and sedation seminar will focus on successful pain management techniques to solve the most difficult situations. Strategies to increase patient comfort and difficult patient management techniques will be presented. You will learn ways to improve the success rate of both simple and more complex anesthetic techniques.

Participant Seminar for Re-Energizing Patient Oral Hygiene Instruction –Gwen Essex, RDH, MS, EdD

This is your opportunity to learn from the knowledge of experts and share the experiences of your peers through highly-interactive discussions of educational interventions for patients. Evidence- based materials will sharpen your understanding of what works and why it is successful. You will learn the old notion of oral physiotherapy and gingival stimulation through contemporary understanding of mechanical and chemical plaque control.

Caries Management by Risk Assessment – The Caries Balance –John D. B. Featherstone, MSc, PhD

Pathological factors, including acidogenic bacteria, salivary dysfunction, and dietary carbohydrates are related to caries progression. Protective factors, which include antibacterials, salivary calcium, phosphate and proteins, salivary flow, and fluoride in saliva can balance, prevent or reverse dental caries. This presentation will summarize the science behind the “caries balance” concept, the key to caries management by risk assessment in clinical practice, and will describe the tools to implement “caries management by risk assessment” in the dental office.
