Welcome back (and Welcome)

September is an exciting time of year at the School of Dentistry. I wanted to take this opportunity to welcome all students back to a new academic year that is now underway, and to thank faculty and staff for all they have done and continue to do to make the School a wonderful place for academic growth and the pursuit of professional goals.

All student classes have something to celebrate:

• The D4 and DH2 class are starting their final year and will soon be moving on to greater professional and academic challenges;
  
  
• The D3s enjoyed their Clinical Induction Ceremony this past July, and the clinical phase of their education is in full swing;
  
  
• The D2s have completed a challenging first year of the curriculum and enjoyed a summer break;
  
  
• And the new first-year dental students are excited about entering into their new profession, and joining our UCSF community.

While the new academic year is a busy time, it is also a time full of new challenges and possibilities – a time to reflect on all that we have accomplished and on what remains to be achieved.

I look forward to working with you this coming year as we continue our service in providing oral health care, engage in creative science, institute our new curriculum, and successfully respond to the accreditation process.
