IADR/AADR News: Weintraub Presented with |

|
"It means a lot to me" said Weintraub of the award in an interview posted on the AADR website (link below). "I know many of the people who have received the award in the past, and some were my mentors. This award represents the work that I’ve done over the years with my colleagues at UCSF and elsewhere." The CAN DO Center last year recevied $24.4 million from the National Institutes of Health to address socio-economic and cultural disparities in oral health, the largest grant in the history of the UCSF School of Dentistry (link below). Weintraub previously directed a major randomized clinical trial of fluoride varnish; important research concerning efficiency, costs and effectiveness of sealants among high-caries-risk populations; a large-scale epidemiologic intergenerational study of periodontal disease; and several important policy initiatives at the national level. Dr. Weintraub has published widely in leading dental and non-dental journals, authoring nearly 100 articles, chapters, and a textbook. She presents regularly at the IADR General Sessions. Commenting on the most rewarding aspects of her work for the AADR interview, Weintraub noted that in addition to mentorship of successful students "It is also very rewarding to be able to make a difference in the public’s health. [...] The ability to see our clinical research findings translated into action to improve oral health is very gratifying. It has been rewarding to identify a problem, do a clinical trial and get good results, change policy, and increase dissemination of those methods to improve the health of the public."
