Give Kids a Smile Day 2009
Called Major Success

Give Kids a Smile Day 2009 took place on Saturday, February 7th in the Dental Clinics Building at 707 Parnassus Avenue.

Faculty event coordinator Dr. Ignatius "Nate" Gerodias, an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Orofacial Sciences, described the American Dental Association-sponsored day as "a success on many different levels", and was congratulated by Dean Featherstone for his role. "We can all feel very proud on many fronts," said the Dean, "not the least being the team effort!"

Dr. Gerodias commented on the many benefits of the annual event, citing the potential for community oral health education outreach, increased awareness of the UCSF School of Dentistry and the wide range of services offered, and on an individual basis, providing access to oral health screenings and basic services to nearly two hundred young patients for whom such access might not otherwise have been available.

While taking account of the extraordinary level of cooperation among teams of dental students and supervising faculty representing various oral health specialties, Dr. Gerodias reserved special praise for the highly productive students, whose work resulted in many appreciative parents and inquiries about becoming regular patients at the clinic. "I have no doubt that we put our best foot forward on that day" he said.
