First and foremost: Your alumni association is alive and stronger than ever. In keeping with the past three annual alumni meetings, the one held this past March was one of the best attended with fantastic presentations by our own Stacey Quo (Class of 1994) and three physicians from Stanford University. There was a lot of enthusiasm as they reviewed our current understanding of sleep disorder medicine, the consequences of poor sleep, and the various treatment options including orthodontic treatment alternatives involved with caring for patients with sleep disorders. Incorporating and managing patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in our practices is an important element in the scope of comprehensive care orthodontists provide.
Second: This summer we will have our membership drive and dues mailing. I can report that our membership numbers are strong. If you have not already sent in your dues for the 2018-2019 year, please do so soon. A letter will be sent in June and an email reminder will be sent later in the summer. Your continued support of the Alumni association is greatly appreciated. Remember, dues are collected in the summer and fall for the upcoming year.
Third, in collaboration with UCSF Division of Orthodontics we have hosted several successful alumni receptions at the annual AAO and PCSO meetings. The one at this year’s AAO meeting at Fleming’s Steak House in Los Angeles was no exception. I hope that you will join us for our other upcoming events including an reception at the PCSO meeting in Hawaii and next year’s UCOAA meeting scheduled for March 13-14, 2020 at Sonoma Lodge.
Finally, the UCOAA Board of Directors and I are looking forward to enthusiastically welcoming the incoming Class of 2022 residents to the program and the UC orthodontic family on July 1, 2019.
Wishing all read this health and happiness,
Dr. Evan Vogel
