The UCSF School of Dentistry announces the appointment of Drs Biana Roykh and Sean Mong as UCSF Dental Center Clinic Directors, effective June 24, 2013 for Dr. Roykh, and July 1, 2013 for Dr. Mong.
Biana Roykh, DDS, is a 2006 graduate of the UCSF School of Dentistry, and before that, a graduate of the UCSF-SFSU Dental Post-Baccalaureate Program, 2001-2002.
"Early last year, Dr. Harvey Brody recruited me to San Francisco State University to take over his position as Co-Director of the Dental Post Baccalaureate Program" says Roykh. "I have special affinity for the post baccalaureate program, as it was the starting point of my dental career."
Dr. Roykh has served as volunteer faculty at UCSF Dentistry since 2007, and also owns her own practice in downtown San Francisco.
Adds Dr. Roykh: "Teaching and being involved in academia has been my goal since graduation from UCSF School of Dentistry in 2006. I became a volunteer faculty at the UCSF School of Dentistry in 2007. As clinical faculty, I am involved in patient centered care with dental students and GPR residents. I also lecture occasionally to both pre-doctoral students and the GPR."
She has been a member of the Omega Kappa Upsilon (OKU) National Dental Honor Society since 2006. She received the Psi Omega National Scholastic Achievement Award in 2006, was a winner of the Regional Essay Competition Scholarship Award of the California Dental Association in 2003-2004, received a Second-year Dental Student Scholarship for outstanding community and academic achievement, and made the Dean's List in recognition of excellent academic achievement, Fall 2002, Winter 2003, and Spring 2003.
Sean Mong, DDS, EdD, is a 1994 graduate of the UCSF School of Dentistry. He has been a member of UCSF Dentistry faculty since 1994, faculty and course director for both patient simulation and clinical courses, and has practiced privately for the past sixteen years.
Says Dr. Mong: "With a combined doctoral degree in dentistry and education, I have a full appreciation of balancing patient care, quality assurance, risk management, and student learning."
Mong is the recipient of numerous honors, including a 2008 induction into the Pierre Fauchard Academy, having won the organization's Research Award in 2005 and 2006; and is a 1990 inductee to the Golden Key National Honor Society.
Roykh and Mong take over duties from the recently retired Dr. Denly Herbert and Dr. Avelino Silva, who has plans to retire in the next couple of years. "Dr. Herbert was gracious enough to come back on recall while we searched for his replacement, and we were fortunate to have a very strong pool of candidates." said Clinical Operations Manager Maria Guerra.
