Pathways to Research
UCSF SCHOOL OF DENTISTRY RESEARCH DAY 2003
Approximately 300 students, faculty and staff of the UCSF School of Dentistry gathered in UCSF's Cole Hall to celebrate "Pathways to Research," the school's first annual research day on March 6, 2003. Classes were cancelled and clinics and laboratories were closed in the School of Dentistry in observance of the day.
UCSF Chancellor and Nobel Laureate J. Michael Bishop delivered his presentation "Becoming a Scientist," which underlined the theme of the day: celebration of the School's accomplishments in research and the presentation of career options in dentistry that include research, academia and applications of scientific advances in clinical practice.
Guest speaker Kenneth M. Hargreaves, chair of the Department of Endodontics at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center, San Antonio, spoke on his research in the field of pain management.
Students were awarded $350 each in three categories for their research.
