Research & Clinical Excellence Day
The biggest news coming out of UCSF Dentistry's Research and Clinical Excellence Day 2011 may be the phenomenal growth of the event itself: from twenty posters presented on the original "Research Day" in 2003, to over sixty at this year's event. So announced UCSF Dentistry's Associate Dean for Research Dr. Richard Jordan as he welcomed a near-capaity audience to Cole Hall, successively introducing UCSF Executive Vice Chancellor Dr. Jeffrey Bluestone and UCSF Dentistry Dean John D.B. Featherstone, to open the day's events.
The Keynote Speaker as the morning began was the new Chair of the Department of Preventive and Restorative Dental Sciences Dr. George Taylor, who spoke on "Periodontal Disease and Periodontal Therapy: Role in the Diabetes Epidemic.
The morning oral presentations were chaired by Dr. Lisa Chung, Health Sciences Assistant Clinical Professor in PRDS, followed by an entertaining Outstanding Clinician Award lecture by recipient Dr. Tony Pogrel, Associate Dean for Hospital Affairs and William Ware Endowed Professor and Chair of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
The lunch and poster presentations at the Millberry Union Gym were followed by afternoon oral presentations, chaired by Dr. Jeffrey Bush, Assistant Professor in the Department of Cell and Tissue Biology.
Faculty Research Award receipient Dr. Pamela Den Besten, Professor and Chair of the Division of Pediatric Dentistry in the Department of Orofacial Sciences, gave a presentation detailing her professional life and work.
The Mentor of the Year Award was presented by D3 Robert Lee to Dr. Wu Li, Associate Professor in the Department of Orofacial Sciences.
