Curriculum: The Academic Affairs unit develops the academic and administrative calendar, the schedule of classes, and the schedule of final examinations. The unit provides staff support to the S/D Educational Policy Committee and the Scholarship Committee. It provides and is responsible for oversight regarding the S/D Bylaws, Regulations, and policies.
Student Records and Evaluation: Academic Affairs is responsible for the compilation and evaluation of student records. It provides staff support to S/D Student Status Committees each quarter. The Student Status Committees evaluate the academic standing of students. The unit also verifies attendance, class standing, and graduation of students.
Student Petitions: Petitions processed by the unit are: quarterly study lists, add/drop of courses, credit by examination, grading option changes, removal of provisional grade, substitution of courses and other petitions regarding academic status. The unit also provides verification of academic data for letters of recommendation.
Board Examination Applications: Academic Affairs approves student applications for the National Board and State Board examinations.
Course Evaluations and Graduate Surveys: The unit coordinates the evaluation of courses. Academic Affairs also regularly surveys students and alumni regarding the curriculum and the School.
Student Academic Affairs

Recruitment: The recruitment section of Student Academic Affairs is responsible for organizing, planning, developing and implementing long and short range recruitment strategies. The recruitment section is also responsible for developing public relations and outreach programs that will interest prospective students at the high school and college levels to consider careers in dentistry.
Admissions: The Admissions section is responsible for the process by which dental and dental hygiene applicants are evaluated, admitted and registered. This section designs all application materials, administers application and evaluation procedures, prepares files for Admissions Committee review, notifies applicants of action taken, coordinates the registration and assists with the orientation of entering students. This section also administers the admissions process for all of the Postgraduate Programs and coordinates their registration. UCSF School of Dentistry supports the recruitment, preliminary education and retention of underrepresented minority and disadvantaged students for careers in dentistry. Recruitment activities include visits to universities and colleges in the state of California and selected schools out of state, conducting workshops and presentations for pre-health advisers and pre-health clubs. In addition to these services the unit provides the principal academic support and retention component for students enrolled in the School of Dentistry. Services include group and individual tutoring, national board reviews, and counseling and advising of dental and dental hygiene students.
