Intercampus Exchange and San Francisco Consortium
UCSF students may take advantage of a cross-registration system among eight member colleges and universities that make up the San Francisco Consortium: the University of San Francisco, San Francisco State University, UC San Francisco, Hastings College of the Law, City College of San Francisco, Cogswell College, Golden Gate University, and California College of Podiatric Medicine.
Cross-Registration Policy
Regularly enrolled, full-time matriculated students of a San Francisco Consortium member institution may register for credit in courses offered by other member institutions with the consent of their faculty adviser and consent of the host institution instructor, as space is available in the desired class. This policy applies only to the regular sessions of the academic year and specifically excludes summer session, intersession, extension and similar programs. In addition:
Cross-registration is limited to one course per quarter/semester at only one other institution except where special arrangements are made between participating institutions.
Cross-registration is not accepted until
the first day of late registration at the host institution.
If the student falls below full-time status during the quarter/semester of the cross-registration, that enrollment will be cancelled automatically.
If the student drops the course before completion, it is the responsibility of the student to notify both the host and home registrars and to fill out appropriate forms to avoid the recording of a “failure.”
Students from consortium member institutions who enroll in Golden Gate University will be charged the fees for the class, and at the University of San Francisco (USF) will be charged the USF per-unit tuition rate published in the USF class schedule for that term and will be expected to make payment at the time of registration.
Grades are reported directly from the host institution to the student’s home institution registrar.
Intercampus Exchange Program
Graduate students registered on any campus of the University may take a course offered on another campus of the University by becoming intercampus exchange graduate students. To do this, they must make application through the graduate division where they are registered and have the approval of advisers and deans of the graduate divisions on both campuses. The program only applies to regular sessions and does not include summer session.
The Intercampus Exchange Program enables students to study with certain scholars, to work in special fields, or to use facilities and collections not available on the campus where they are registered. Whenever possible, personal arrangements should be made between faculty members on both campuses to assure that the courses, seminars, or facilities will be available to the students. This program also permits students to take courses on more than one campus of the University in the same quarter. Courses taken on another campus should be directly related to the student’s degree program. Lower division undergraduate courses may not be taken on Intercampus Exchange.
Intercampus exchange graduate students are considered to be graduate students in residence on the campus where they are registered. If they take a course on another campus, their enrollments are not transferred, nor are they admitted to the graduate division or any department on the host campus. Grades obtained through this program are transferred to the students’ official records on their home campus.
Application forms for the Intercampus Exchange Program may be obtained from the home campus Graduate Division. To avoid penalties for late filing of the study list, the application form should be completed and filed six weeks before the opening of the quarter of enrollment in the program. A new application is required each quarter.
If you apply to but do not enroll in the Intercampus Exchange Program, please notify the deans of the graduate divisions on both campuses, so that your application may be cancelled.
