UCSF DAA Medal of Honor Recipient Lauro Quiros (D'45) Passes Away
Lauro R. Quiros, DDS: May 18, 1922 – September 12, 2013.
Born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, Dr. Lauro R. Quiros was January, 1945 Honor Society graduate of UCSF School of Dentistry, Dr. Quiros was a member of "The Old Zip House" who, at the age of 22, served in the Second World War, stationed in Vienna as a Captain in the Dental Corps.
Dr. Quiros was a longtime member of faculty at the UCSF School of Dentistry, also maintaining a private practice at the historic 450 Sutter professional building in downtown San Francisco. He was also an active member of many dental organizations, including the American College of Dentists, the Academy of Dentistry International, and the Academy of Craniomandibular Disorders.
Honored many times over, he was among of the first to receive the Dental Alumni Association's Medal of Honor as a distinguished alumnus of the UCSF School of Dentistry, and the recipient of an Outstanding Teacher Award from his students.
He served in many leadership roles with the UCSF Dental Alumni Association over the years, including as its President, in 1971. He was a founding Trustee of The Parnassus Club of UCSF School of Dentistry, as well as a member of the Board of Directors of the University of California Alumni Association, serving multiple terms.
