The UCSF Mini-Residency in Dental Sleep Medicine is designed for dental professionals to develop and gain in-depth knowledge about clinical procedures for treating sleep-related breathing disorders. Participants will become familiar and skilled at utilizing oral appliance therapy in the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), sleep disordered breathing, and snoring patients to incorporate sleep apnea treatment into a dental practice.
The medical lecturers are experts in sleep medicine, coming from both the UCSF and Stanford Schools of Medicine and Dentistry. Additional speakers were selected from all over North America to provide a distinguished international faculty.
- Hands-on workshop: including screening, exams, bite registrations, fitting oral appliance
- Analyze and evaluate polysomnogram and HST reports
- Describe the treatment options available for OSA including the indications, contraindications,
complications and the side effects associated with each
- Sleep apnea in children
- Describe the practical concepts required for building a successful dental sleep medicine
practice including informed consent, relationships with physicians, sources of patient referrals,
follow-up for patients, records keeping, and medical insurance billing

Jolie Chang, MD - Medical Management of the Airway
Logan Schneider, MD - Monitoring Sleep in the Lab and at Home
- Each participant will get a chance to participate in a home sleep test.
- Course is limited to 20 participants to ensure each participant receives optimal interaction with faculty
