Workshop Instructors:
- Elliot Abt, DDS, MS, MSc, received his master’s degree in evidence-based health care from the University of Oxford and his dental degree and master’s degree in oral pathology from the University of Illinois. He serves on the Critical Review Panel for the ADA Center for Evidence-Based Dentistry and is a past-chair of the ADA Council on Scientific Affairs. Dr. Abt also teaches oral medicine at the University of Illinois and is on the attending staff at Illinois Masonic Medical Center.
- Alonso Carrasco-Labra, DDS, MSc, PhD(c), is a dentist who obtained his D.D.S. from the University of Chile. He also obtained a master's degree in clinical epidemiology from McMaster University. Currently he is a Ph.D. candidate in Health Research Methodology at the same institution, under the supervision of Dr. Gordon Guyatt. Since 2015, Dr. Carrasco-Labra has served as director of the ADA Center for Evidence-Based Dentistry. He is a member of the Cochrane Patient Reported Outcome Methods Group, Applicability and Recommendation Methods Group, Wounds Group, the Oral Health Group, and the GRADE Working Group. Dr. Carrasco-Labra is an author of a series of 10 articles published in the Journal of the American Dental Association titled “A Practical Approach to Evidence-Based Dental Practice" and is a co-author of the Users' Guide to the Medical Literature (3rd edition, JAMA).
- Kelly Lemke, D.D.S., M.S., is an Instructor in the Department of Developmental Dentistry at the UT Health Science Center San Antonio School of Dentistry. She is an Editor of Critically Appraised Topics in the Evidence-Based Dentistry Program and Course Director of the evidence-based course for second-year dental students. After graduating from UTHSCSA School of Dentistry in 1995, she completed a General Practice Residency at Audie Murphy VA Hospital in 1996 and has practiced dentistry in both private practice and public health settings. She holds a Masters of Science in Clinical Investigations from UTHSCSA Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. Outside of UTHSCSA, Dr. Lemke serves as the professional editor for the ITI Online Academy based in Basel, Switzerland; ITI is a leading international academic provider of evidence-based education in implant dentistry.
