Our success in advancing health, health education and science is tied directly to the quality of our ideas and the passion of our people. By understanding and fostering diversity, and creating a climate where all members of our community feel empowered and supported to do their best work, we know there is no limit to what we can achieve.
We all play a role in eradicating racism and discrimination at our school. Please join me in taking action for social justice.
Statement of Commitment
UCSF School of Dentistry is committed to fostering an environment of diversity, equity and inclusion for all learners, leadership, faculty, staff, alumni and supporters. Our success in our rapidly evolving world depends on everyone’s diverse knowledge, perspectives, backgrounds and experiences. The demographics of our school should reflect our vibrant society. Collectively and individually, we all have a responsibility to create a safe and welcoming community where individuals can listen and contribute to an intellectually and socially stimulating environment. It is the responsibility everyone at our school to advocate for fair and equitable opportunities.
Diversity, equity and inclusion have long been a matter of policy, values and principles at UCSF. These attributes are interwoven in the UCSF PRIDE Values, which unite the University’s schools under a common set of values to establish a clear direction for our community to work toward our mission. Nonetheless, we acknowledge that historically our policies and practices at times have failed to ensure protection of these necessities and expectations in our community.
Protecting diversity, equity and inclusion is essential to fulfilling our school’s mission. Every learner, leader, faculty and staff member, alumnus and supporter – regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, age, religion, language, abilities/disabilities, sexual orientation, gender identity, socioeconomic status, geographic region, or any other attribute – has a right to inclusion, respect, agency and voice at UCSF School of Dentistry. Our community has a responsibility to uphold these values and actively foster full participation at our school.
