The UCSF School of Dentistry will soon reach an important milestone in its nearly two-year journey to align its International Dentist Pathway (IDP) program with its four-year Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) pathway program.
By June 30, 2023, all education and patient care activities will take place at the school’s 707 Parnassus Avenue location, as part of the school’s goal to evolve and strengthen its education programs. The move will also make it easier for patients to tap into more specialized dental services while having continuity of care.
“We are fortunate to have outstanding facilities at Parnassus to serve both the education needs of students as well as the needs of our patients, who will be able to access a broader range of general dentistry and specialty care in one location,” says Michael Reddy, DMD, DMSc, dean of the School of Dentistry.
By bringing students in the IDP program from the site on Buchanan Street to the flagship Parnassus locale, the school will expand education opportunities and elevate the quality of the dental school experience for all DDS students.
“With the ability to better sync the IDP and DDS core degree programs, we will improve the educational and clinical experience for both while providing additional research opportunities and other enrichments,” added Reddy.
The change marks a step toward fulfilling the school’s multiyear plan to ensure that UCSF continues to produce the best clinicians and prepare them to lead the way in modernizing dental practices.
