Ameera was born in Dhaka, Bangladesh and grew up primarily in Winnipeg, Canada before moving to San Diego in high school. In 2017 she graduated from UC San Diego with a bachelor of science in human biology, while simultaneously volunteering at the UCSD Student Run Free Dental Clinics and working at the Huntington’s Disease Clinical Research Center under Dr. Jody Corey-Bloom. Her research ranged from the assessment of behavioral and functional decline to the study of the progressive degeneration of fine and gross motor movement in Huntington’s disease, including a study of salivary mutant huntingtin protein, which eventually became her master’s thesis in 2018. Ameera is excited to be a part of a program at UCSF that allows her to pursue both her interest in research and her passion for dentistry. While not in lab or clinic, she enjoys spending time with family and friends and exploring cafes, museums, beaches, and parks.
