David was raised in New York, Taiwan and Canada. He graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles with a Bachelor of Science in Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology in 2019. During his time at UCLA, David conducted research in Dr. Erina Vlashi’s laboratory in the Department of Radiation Oncology. His research focused on illuminating mechanisms of radioresistance in solid tumors, with the ultimate goal of improving the efficacy of radiation therapy through targeted metabolic reprogramming. This was achieved using patient-derived tumor models of triple-negative breast cancer, glioblastoma multiforme, and pancreatic adenocarcinoma.
Inspired by both laboratory research and clinical dentistry, David was intrigued by the translational impact of basic science. For this reason, David decided to pursue the DDS/PhD program at UC San Francisco, where he aims to further patient care as a clinician-scientist. Under the supervision of Dr. Ophir Klein, he studies mechanisms of tooth enamel formation. In his free time, David enjoys cycling, cooking, learning about technology, and reading about world history.
