Karin immigrated from Iran to San Jose, California after high school. She received associate degrees in Biology and Chemistry from West Valley College in 2017 and transferred to the University of California, Berkeley where she received her BA in Molecular and Cell Biology in 2019. During her time at UC Berkeley, Karin conducted research in Dr. Zena Werb’s laboratory in the Department of Anatomy at UCSF. Her research focused on neutrophils and the innate immune system. After graduating from UC Berkeley, Karin joined the Diaz Lab in the Neurosurgery Department at UCSF where she worked full time as a staff research associate. Her research in the Diaz lab involved applying molecular approaches to identify pathways involved in glioma progression. She will join the OCS DDS/PhD program at UCSF in 2021. Karin enjoys hiking, cycling, and baking.
