Accreditation: 2019 and Beyond

The UCSF School of Dentistry is accredited for seven-year periods by the Committee on Dental Accreditation (CODA). Our current period runs 2012-19.

CODA serves the public and profession by developing and implementing accreditation standards that promote and monitor the continuous quality and improvement of dental education programs. Accreditation essentially is a stamp of approval for a school's education system. The process takes place for the benefit of the general public, ensuring that the academic programs are of a sufficiently high level that the public can anticipate the best care from UCSF graduates.

In previous cycles, the School has focused on the immediately upcoming site visit. This time, the School will embark upon a cyclical, quality improvement process that works in conjunction with the School’s Strategic Plan to measure certain metrics on an annual basis. Those metrics will change over time, influenced by the School’s Mission Statement, CODA standards and other important influencers, such as the continued development of our curriculum and UCSF Dental Center.

Dr. Sheila Brear, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, is facilitating the process and has engaged an Accreditation Steering Committee that will guide the school through the process.
