On October 18, a daylong externship symposium at UCSF's Parnassus Heights campus brought together UCSF Dentistry faculty and the directors of community clinics affiliated with the UCSF Dentistry Externship Program, for a day of lectures, discussion and panels, as well as appreciation.
Highlights included a UCSF dental faculty panel: Drs Kurt Schroeder, Susan Hyde, Mehran Hossaini, Brent Lin, and Paul Atkinson; a staff workshop: "Dentist/Assistant/Student: Working Together as a Team," with Drs Molly Newlon, Linda Centore and Denny Phan (RDAEF from Marin County Dental Clinic); an "Externship Presentation of Appreciation" and lunch with Dean Featherstone; a presentation on "The Art of Clinical Feedback" with Dr. Linda Centore, for faculty and staff; "How to Establish a Successful Externship Program" with Dr. Huong Le; and a panel with Externship Dental Directors: Drs Huong Le, Mostafa Barakzoy, Daniel Siri, and Carter Wright.
The symposium was organized by Externship Program Director Baharak Amanzadeh, DDS, MPH, Health Sciences Assistant Clinical Professor and the course director for PCC 148, Community Clinics Externship.
"The symposium will be renamed the Dr. Nelson Artiga-Diaz Symposium," announced Dr. Amanzadeh, "to recognize Dr. Artiga's pivotal role as the previous director of the program."
