Dr. Connelly is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, an alumnus of Columbia College of Dental Medicine, University of California San Francisco Medical and Graduate Schools and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency program, he is Board Certified and carries a General Anesthesia Permit, Oral Surgery Permit, as well as a Medical License from the State of California and a license to practice Dentistry from the State of New York. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
His areas of clinical interest include temporomandibular joint pathology and management, oral pathology treatment and reconstruction, orthognathic surgery and advanced office-based procedures including bone grafting and implant placement.
Clinical research interests include temporomandibular pathophysiology and treatment, botulinum toxin treatment of temporomandibular disorders, obstructive sleep apnea, 3-dimensional bioprinting for bone graft generation, the role of the glymphatic system in neurodegeneration, artificial intelligence driven histomorphometric classification of oral squamous cell carcinoma, intraoral biosensor design/development and quantum biology.
Dr. Connelly has published more than 50 peer reviewed articles, numerous abstracts and meeting presentations and 5 books. 3 books on temporomandibular disorder and 2 books on head and neck cancer. He serves on the UCSF Faculty Senate's Academic Planning and Budget Committee, is a Chair of the Professional and Standards Board at the San Francisco Veteran's Affairs Hospital and is a member of the UCSF Institutional Review Board at Laurel Heights.
Lastly, Dr. Connelly is proudly a visiting Professor at the University of Milan Dental School in Italy.
