Nisarg Patel, MD, DMD
Assistant Professor
I am a board-certified Assistant Professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Affiliate Faculty in the Department of Medicine, Division of Clinical Informatics and Digital Transformation.
My research focuses on two clinical questions: 1) why do similarly staged patients across head and neck pathologies, including TMJ disorders, osteonecrosis, and neoplasms, respond differently to the same treatment?; and 2) how can we predict which patients with oral disease will develop systemic complications?
To investigate these questions, I apply machine learning to EHR, imaging, and genomic data to uncover molecular drivers of disease heterogeneity and identify biomarkers to guide risk stratification and treatment selection. I also study the policy and regulatory infrastructure needed to bring computational tools safely into surgical care.
