IDP Interview Candidates

Congratulations on your interview for the UCSF School of Dentistry’s International Dentist Pathway (IDP). The Office of Admissions and Outreach created this page to help you prepare for your interview, understand each step of the process, and learn more about our school and campus life. We wish you the very best as you move through the admissions process.

What to expect on interview day

The sections below outline how the IDP interview works, including the required pre-interview session, evaluation criteria, and what to expect in this year’s virtual format.

  • You will participate in a one-on-one Zoom interview with a faculty member. Your interviewer will evaluate four key competencies:

    • Motivation
    • Self-awareness
    • Problem-solving and critical thinking
    • Collaboration, teamwork, and leadership

To ensure a fair, competency-based review, your interviewer will not have access to your written application.

  • Before your faculty interview, you must attend a live Zoom session that includes:

    • A 30-minute writing exercise
    • An overview of the IDP program
    • A Q&A with admissions staff and current students
    • Information about studying and living in San Francisco
    • Guidance on next steps in the admissions process

We encourage you to explore the videos below, which supplement the virtual components of this year’s interview process.

  • Although your interview is virtual, you can get a feel for UCSF through our recorded campus tour. This video introduces you to our clinics, simulation labs, classrooms, and student spaces.
