University of California San Francisco
Welcome to the UCSF School of Dentistry Class of 2029!
Congratulations on your admission to the UCSF School of Dentistry’s International Dentist Pathway. This page outlines the steps you’ll need to complete before joining us and provides resources to help you prepare for your transition to UCSF.
If you have questions, contact our team: idpadmissions@ucsf.edu.
Your next steps as an admitted student
Complete the steps below to secure your seat in the program and finalize your admission. Each item has specific requirements and deadlines, so please review them carefully.
-
To officially accept your offer, submit a $3,500 deposit (check or money order payable to “UC Regents”) by the deadline listed in your admissions email. Mail your payment to the address provided on the form. Do not send any payments to the School of Dentistry or the Office of Admissions & Outreach.
Download form -
This background check is required for all admitted students. Within 3–5 days of receiving your offer, Certiphi Screening will email you instructions for completing your required background check (add studentedition@certiphi.com to your safe-senders list).
You must begin this process within 15 days of the date on your Provisional Admit Letter. Failure to initiate the background check on time will result in your offer being rescinded, even if you have already paid the non-refundable deposit.
If you recently completed a Certiphi screening for another institution, UCSF will have access to it and no further action is needed.
-
Review the technical standards required for successful completion of the IDP program. By signing the agreement, you acknowledge these standards and understand they will be used to evaluate your professional behavior and competence throughout the program.
Sign the agreement -
Before patient care begins, you’ll learn essential techniques in the simulation lab using extracted human teeth. While plastic teeth are used for some exercises, many procedures require real teeth, and UCSF cannot supply the number needed for training.
Please begin collecting extracted teeth from local dentists as soon as possible. Oral surgeons and general dentists are typically familiar with dental-student needs, but you may need to contact multiple practices, as students from other programs may also be collecting.
Collection instructions -
If you require an F-1 or J-1 student visa, submit the visa application form by February 1, 2026. For questions about visa requirements or documentation, contact Matt Loehrer in the International Students and Scholars Office at matthew.loehrer@ucsf.edu.
