Community involvement

Our success is deeply rooted in our partnerships across San Francisco and the Bay Area. For more than a century, UCSF oral and maxillofacial surgeons have provided essential trauma care at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, a longstanding example of our commitment to serving vulnerable populations. Today, that commitment extends even further through service-learning programs, free community clinics, and outreach efforts that expand access to oral health care across the region.

Community dental clinic

The UCSF School of Dentistry’s Community Dental Clinic provides free, comprehensive dental care to underserved patients every week, staffed entirely by volunteer dental students and faculty. Since 1993, the clinic has partnered with local shelters and service organizations to expand access to high-quality oral health care for people who might otherwise go without.

Community-based clinical education

UCSF Dentistry expanded its Community Based Clinical Education program to include third-year students, giving learners earlier, deeper experience serving patients in community clinics. This expansion strengthens UCSF’s long-standing commitment to advancing health equity by increasing access to high-quality dental care across the Bay Area and beyond.
