Periodontic (gum) treatment
Periodontic Gum Treatment focuses on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of conditions affecting the gums and the supporting structures around the teeth, including bone and connective tissue. Treatment may range from nonsurgical care, such as deep cleanings and periodontal maintenance, to advanced surgical procedures when needed.

UCSF’s Periodontics Clinic provides comprehensive care for the gums, bone, and other supporting structures around the teeth for both children and adults. The clinic focuses on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal disease, with care delivered by expert faculty and residents in a supervised academic setting. UCSF’s clinic and periodontology program pages describe a broad scope of care that includes modern diagnostic and treatment approaches, advanced surgical and nonsurgical therapies, gum grafting, regenerative procedures, dental implants, and intravenous conscious sedation when appropriate.

Payment and insurance options
Different clinics work with different insurance plans, and participation may change over time. Many, but not all, accept some insurance, including Delta Dental, PPO plans, and Denti-Cal. Some only accept self-payment. Please be sure to ask our staff about insurance options when scheduling your appointment.
- Insurance: The Periodontics Clinic accepts Delta Dental Premier and Delta PPO. Please bring your benefit card or insurance plan information to your appointment.
- Direct payment: Patients may pay with cash, check, or credit card for Dental Center services.
- Denti-Cal: This clinic accepts Denti-Cal
