The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery engages in three distinct areas of research: basic science, translational, and clinical research.
- The basic science research within the department is focused heavily on pain research through the Levine Lab.
- The translational research is focused on tissue engineering and regeneration with the majority of the work coming from faculty at the San Francisco VA Medical Center.
- Clinical research is conducted across all of our sites and focuses on research questions in the areas of:
- Maxillofacial trauma
- Craniofacial surgery
- Benign pathology
- Malignant pathology
- Reconstruction
- Dental implants
- Temporomandibular joint disorders
- Sleep medicine/surgery
- Surgical education
